Most PDF bloat comes from embedded images. A scanned document, a presentation, or a form with photos can easily be 10–20x larger than the equivalent text-only document. Fonts, metadata, and object streams also contribute.

We apply industry-standard JPEG quality settings that are indistinguishable to the human eye for documents and text-heavy PDFs.
